San
Diego’s first lady of philanthropy,
Joan B. Kroc (1928-2003), left a living legacy at St. Vincent
de Paul Village. Her generous
response to Father Joe’s vision of overcoming homelessness
helped open the Joan Kroc Center in 1987. It served 310 family
residents and became the cornerstone of the Village that now
serves 955 residents.
